MRS JONES Art Shop & Gallery - A Review: Spring Open Exhibition

I might be biased because I have some paintings in this exhibition but it is a lovely collection of very different works and it is in a lovely part of Shrewsbury.

Sam Reese’s abstract painted assemblage is probably the highlight for me and at the opening, unsurprisingly, it was in the window. I’m not an abstract artist but the texture and colour in Sam’s relief painting kept me coming back and stopping even when the gallery wasn’t open.

After that, James Millichamp’s painterly abstract composition with a hint of urban landscape was the next thing that stood out - partly because of its size but mainly because of the contrast in texture and tone.

Tucked just to the side was Ja Edward’s impressionistic landscape of Camden Lock - it’s sold now and given the summer vibes it was giving off, that’s no surprise.

Angela Slack’s ‘Spoons’ are a homely delight as well and reminded me of one of my favourite artists, William Scott. Both artists with clear abstract elements but neither could be considered non-figurative.

I am delighted that my ‘Man wearing a beanie’, has found a new home because I am always conscious that my artificial realist characters are stylistically very different to most things that they are exhibited with.

You can still see my oil painting, ‘Experiment #1 - Man with bowl cut’, until 18th May along with lots of other wonderful pieces. Mrs Jones Art Shop & Gallery’s Spring Open Exhibition is a great trip for any art lovers.
